Orientation Training for New International Headquarters Leadership

The Pan African Dialogue Institute successfully held an orientation exercise for the newly appointed leadership of its International Headquarters. The event took place at the Old Council Chambers of the University of Uyo on Thursday, 9th September 2024.
The orientation, which aimed to provide the new leadership with a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s vision, mission, and goals, also sought to reawaken their consciousness towards Pan-Africanism. Attendees included the International President, Dr. Effiong Udoh, Chief Program Officer Rev. Fr. Emem Umoren, and all members of the new international headquarters leadership, including Program Coordinators, Assistant Coordinators, and Elders for each of the 10 commissions.
The training exercise was structured into six informative sessions, each providing valuable insights into the vision and mission of the various commissions within the Institute. It served as an excellent opportunity for attendees to grasp the organization’s values and objectives.


Dr. Effiong Udoh, the International President, kicked off the orientation with a presentation covering a brief overview of Pan-Africanism, introducing The Pan-African Institute, the leadership, demands and opportunity as well as overview of few commissions. In his address, he elaborated on the essence of Pan-Africanism, the pillars that uphold it, the Institute’s dialogue approach, organizational structure, historical timeline, the different commissions, and the leadership framework.
He also took attendees on a journey through history, highlighting the contributions of Pan-Africanism pioneers such as Marcus Garvey. Dr. Udoh, who is an Associate Professor at the University of Uyo, engaged participants through an interactive approach that featured quizzes, discussions, and practical exercises. He concluded his session by assigning a take-home task to be submitted by the participants.


The training featured thought-provoking interactive sessions, where participants engaged in discussions on suggestions for practical responses to youth capacity development and peacebuilding on the African continent. This provided a platform for members to share insights and strategies for implementing the organization’s vision.

Various speakers graced the orientation exercise, including Dr. Emem Umoren, Dr. Denis Igwe, Nseobit Uduakabasi, Dr. Itoro Ikoh, and Barrister Dorcas James. Each speaker brought unique perspectives and contributions that enriched the discussions, making the sessions engaging and enlightening for all present.


The orientation was expertly anchored by Mr. Goodnews Akpan, who ensured that the program was well-coordinated and that participants remained actively involved throughout the exercise.

The orientation training was a resounding success, providing the new leadership of The Pan African Dialogue Institute with a deeper understanding of their roles and responsibilities. The interactive approach and thought-provoking discussions helped to set a strong foundation for the leadership team to work toward achieving the organization’s mission of promoting Pan-Africanism.
The Institute looks forward to seeing the impact of this orientation on the activities and initiatives led by the new international headquarters leadership in the months and years ahead.
